Bright Ideas in San Antonio #2

If you are in San Antonio and confused about which direction you are traveling (like me), just find a transit stop where the sign is also a convenient map of the area and has compass points.

Bright Ideas in San Antonio #1

Rather than having a parking meter for every parking spot, San Antonio has these parking stations where you pay for your space. When you pay for your space, your receipt pops out which you then place on your dashboard to show you have paid. It leaves about 2% of the meters clogging the sidewalk, which also should mean a 98% reduction in meter maintenance and the cost of someone retrieving cash from the meters. Smart idea.

Thank You

World's Strongest Clown & the World's Strongest Redneck

Hmmmm Buffo vs The World's Strongest Redneck. Think of the possibilities. We've seen Buffo at a number of fairs. As clowns go, he's actually not very scary (yes, I am one of those people who think clowns are scary). The World's Strongest Redneck isn't very exciting from the videos on his website, but maybe he's more interesting in person. It might be interesting to see them teamed up on the Amazing Race.

Pets or Meat?

There didn't appear to be too many takers at the Randolph Fair for the rabbit sandwich. The stand reminded me of the Michael Moore movie Roger & Me.

Midge

Midge is a Chihuahua-rat terrier mix who serves on duty with the Geauga County Sheriff's Department. She has become a celebrity and doesn't reveal her age or weight to the media. She graciously posed for a few pictures at the fair.

39 Signs

I counted 39 signs to be posted for closing this quiet two-lane road through a local village.

Walking on Water

GPS's are great, but when they or the mapping software is wrong the results can be quite odd. We were visiting the Merrill Creek Reservoir and walking the trails when these images were captured.

This is where we were.

This is where the map thought we were.

Twistee Treat

One site says there were 90 of these 28 foot-tall, fiberglass gems built. Most of them were in Florida. The Twist O' The Mist in Niagara Falls is one of the 90. This one just outside Princeton, West Virginia is another.

Wytheville, Virginia

Wytheville's a great small town. I've stayed here before, but usually been too tired or busy to notice. It is kind of hard to miss the paint can and pencil though.

I really tried to keep the paint from spilling on the sidewalk.

knitscape

Knitscape is a public art initiative sponsored by Heights Arts to promote public participation in an arts effort to beautify Cleveland Heights. For a low fee, Heights Arts will teach a person to crochet so they can make their own cozy to add to a local parking meter. Strangely enough, at least one of the parking meter cozies has been stolen.

A co-worker has the three credit card sticker in the rear window of the family truckster. There's way too many possibilities regarding why the family vehicle is so adorned, but maybe there's a market for the white oval people (they seem to have covered all other possible options) to make a new white oval for the remaining credit card addicts. ;-)

compact fluorescent

CFL's will soon be the norm in the states when we follow Europe and eliminate incandescent bulbs. We've tried a number of them over the years in places where they fit the fixtures. This CFL finally died in a bathroom fixture. I knew it was old, but I was surprised to see the May 2002 date code.

Sap Happens

It's almost time. The Burton Log Cabin was warm while they prepared for the sap season.
